Applying for a voucher

Adults who are eligible to become an Australian Hearing client need to apply for a voucher. We operate in a competitive environment for eligible voucher clients, who can choose their hearing provider. See our Eligibility page for more information.

You can get a form from your GP, health centre or an Australian Hearing centre. If you are applying for a voucher for the first time a doctor must complete part of the form.

Australian Hearing services are free apart from a small annual fee for batteries and maintenance. Many high-quality hearing devices are also free, but clients can choose to contribute towards the cost of higher-technology devices with more features.

Young people

Children up to the age of 21 years who are Australian citizens or permanent residents are eligible for government-funded hearing services from Australian Hearing and do not need to complete an application form.

Australian Hearing focuses on those children with permanent or long-term hearing loss. Where there is no suggestion that a child is at risk of a permanent hearing loss or may not need hearing devices, we will usually recommend the family contact another agency for testing.

Pensioners and veterans

If you are an aged pensioner or eligible veteran, a doctor needs to sign your initial application form.

Other adults

If you have a hearing loss, but are not an eligible pensioner or veteran, ask your community health centre or Australian Hearing about assistance available in your area.
