Our Funding Options for First Nations People

We are dedicated to ensuring the optimal hearing health of First Nations people across all age groups. Our comprehensive programs offer various services tailored to meet the needs of our community: 

Early Ears (HAPEE Program)

First Nations children aged 0-6, who have not yet started full-time school, are eligible for free* diagnostic hearing check through our Hearing Assessment Program^ – Early Ears. We prioritize early detection and intervention for optimal outcomes. Find out more about the 

Rehab Program (CSO Program)

If a hearing loss is diagnosed, First Nations children up to 26 years old can receive free higher technology hearing aids through our Rehab program. We ensure access to advanced hearing aid technology for enhanced hearing experiences. 

Programs for Adults

First Nations adults over 50 years old and First Nations adults participating in a Community Development Program (CDP) can benefit from a full hearing assessment. If required, they are eligible for free higher technology hearing aids, ensuring they have the necessary support for better hearing. 

Free* Hearing Screening

All other adults over the age of 18 have access to a free^ 15-minute hearing screening test, allowing for a quick assessment of their hearing health. 

Ongoing Care and Support

We provide free ongoing care and support to all First Nations clients throughout their hearing journey. Our dedicated team is committed to assisting individuals every step of the way. 

Upskilling and Professional Development

We provide upskilling and professional development of primary health and education workers involved in serving First Nations children. This ensures that healthcare and education professionals are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to support our community. 

^ The Hearing Assessment Program is an initiative of the Commonwealth Department of Health. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged 0-6 or not yet attending full time school are eligible to be seen. All services provided under this program are free of charge. A hearing check includes a number of age appropriate tests of hearing and middle ear function. 

* Only 15 minute hearing checks are free. Other services may attract charges/fees or may be subsidised for those eligible under the Australian Government Hearing Services Program, to which conditions apply. A hearing check is a screening that helps identify people that may have hearing loss
