27 May, 2018 This week, we celebrate National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June), a time to celebrate Australia’s rich Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. National Reconciliation Week is a week for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can join the national reconciliation effort and help us grow as a nation. Hearing Australia has a long and proud history of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and individuals. Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) for 2017-2020 commits us to:
Being an employer and hearing services provider of choice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities.
Increasing our service delivery options to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, with a particular focus on our Outreach services.
Creating a vibrant and flourishing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce to understand the needs of the communities we serve.
Our RAP clearly lays out the actions we will take to build respectful relationships and opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. A number of key initiatives are in progress. Reconciliation Week provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our achievements and think about what we can do, as individuals and as an organisation, to make further progress on our reconciliation journey. We have much to be proud of and much more to do. For more information on National Reconciliation Week 2018 visit http://mediahub.humanservices.gov.au/news/national-reconciliation-week-2018/
