12-year-old Watson wanted to ‘give back’ to Australian Hearing for its support for him and his family over the past eight years. He decided to campaign to raise money for charity and increase hearing awareness at his school during Hearing Awareness Week.
When Australian Hearing Port Macquarie got wind of his efforts, they decided to do something special for him in response.
A thank-you surprise
To thank Watson for his kindness of spirit, Australian Hearing secretly sent its newly appointed ambassador, Troy Cassar-Daley, to surprise him, his school and parents, during a school assembly in which the students were learning about hearing care from Australian Hearing.
Troy performed his hits on stage and thanked Watson for his kindness of spirit and bravery shown. Sonya Gebadi, Watson’s mother, said she and her family were completely moved by the gesture.
I have always been proud of my Watson in everything he has done. He has faced challenges and has been brave over the years with his hearing loss. Today, I was overwhelmed by him, Troy Cassar- Daley and the support from Australian Hearing, his mum says.
They made his wish come true, which was to make others aware of, not only his hearing issues, but how to treat others who have a hearing loss, and above all, to take care of your hearing, to ensure you live life to its full potential. I couldn’t be prouder of my son.
