Air Conduction Hearing Aids

Air conduction hearing aids (“Conventional hearing aids”) are fully subsidised for those eligible through government programs and contain a range of features, depending upon the hearing aid model:

  • Tamperproof battery compartment and ear hook for children where safety is a concern.
  • Automatic, adaptive directional microphones to assist hearing in noise over conversational distances, without requiring the client to adjust their hearing aid.
  • The ability to connect to a remote microphone system, to assist hearing in noise over distances of up to 10 metres, when required to meet client goals and when the client and their communication partner/s are prepared to use the technology.
  • Access to a telecoil to use with accessories and in public spaces, if required.
  • Remote control for clients when needed to help them use their aids independently.
  • A range of hearing aid styles and wearing options. Please note:
  • Some hearing aids are not suitable for children and older clients who have safety concerns.
  • Some hearing aid styles may not be suitable if the aids are unable to provide the level of benefit needed to meet goals.

When it is not possible to get every feature that you prefer in a single, fully subsidised device, your audiologist will work with you so that you can prioritise features or make an informed choice about contributing to the cost of a hearing aid that offers more features.

We will review your progress and communication goals with you at least once a year. Your audiologist will check that your hearing aids are still providing the required amplification for your hearing levels and communication needs. If your hearing has changed, then we will adjust your existing hearing aids. If it is not possible to meet your communication needs by adjusting the existing hearing aid, and another hearing aid will meet these needs, then we may refit with a new aid so that you can continue to hear as well as possible.

 Updating your hearing aid

We expect you to use your chosen hearing aids for at least four to five years before updating, unless your hearing or other communication needs change (for example, if you need to start using a remote microphone system and this is not possible with your current hearing aid^).

If your hearing or other communication needs change, please contact us to arrange an appointment to discuss our range and your needs.

Loss and damage

If your hearing aid is lost or damaged beyond repair, we will happily help you organise a replacement.

Where possible, if your hearing aid is lost or needs to be sent away for repair, we can provide you with a loan hearing aid.

*Conditions apply under the Australian Government Hearing Services Program.
