In celebration of Indigenous Literacy Day and Early Childhood Educators Day
A new resource for early learning and listening
We’re excited to launch the Spirit of Sound Educator’s Guide—a brand-new, play-based resource created to support the hearing health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Designed with early education experts and grounded in culture, the guide helps early learning services explore sound, story, and connection in everyday learning. Each learning experience has clear links with the Early Years Learning Framework V2.0 and can be modified to suit different ages and abilities.

Why Sound Matters in the Early Years
Many First Nations children experience preventable hearing loss in their early years. This can impact how they learn, communicate, and connect with culture. The Spirit of Sound Educators’ Guide aims to change that – by raising awareness, supporting educators and celebrating the power of sound in early learning.
What's in the Guide
- Insights into auditory development
- Play-based learning activities inspired by the Spirit of Sound storybook
- Strategies for inclusive sound-based learning
- Links to the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) V2.0

Let’s Celebrate Sound, Culture, and Connection
This Spirit of Sound Educators’ Guide launch is led by Hearing Australia, in collaboration with ECTARC, SNAICC, and Koori Curriculum. We acknowledge the Early Childhood Education and Care Services and their staff that we work with who helped inspire activities in this Guide and continue to promote healthy hearing in their services.
Together, we’re putting children’s voices, stories, and hearing health at the centre.
