Frequently Asked Questions
What if I’m not eligible for the Voucher Scheme?
If you don’t qualify for the Voucher Scheme, you can still get a free 15-minute adult hearing check with us. You can also book for a comprehensive hearing assessment with one of our expert clinicians for a fee.
Will I be pressured to upgrade or purchase more expensive devices?
Not at all. At Hearing Australia, we’re committed to helping you find the right hearing solution, whether that’s a pair of fully subsidised hearing aids, a partially subsidised one with more advanced technology, or a device you’re funding yourself. You’ll receive clear, personalised advice and hearing aid recommendations tailored to your individual hearing needs, budget and lifestyle.
Is the 15-minute hearing check really free?
Yes. If you’re an adult aged 18 years and over, there’s no cost or obligation.
Will I need more hearing checks after my free one?
You’ll receive personalised advice based on your 15-minute free adult hearing check, which may include a recommendation for a comprehensive hearing assessment at one of our hearing centres. A comprehensive hearing assessment and other services may incur a fee if you’re not eligible for the Australian Government Hearing Services Program Voucher Scheme.
What’s the difference between the free 15-minute adult hearing check and a comprehensive hearing assessment?
While a hearing check and a comprehensive hearing assessment both check your ears for hearing loss, they differ in a few ways:
Free 15-minute hearing check: This is a quick test of your hearing that gives a good indication that you may have hearing loss, but it’s not a full diagnosis.
Comprehensive hearing assessment: This is done at our hearing centres by one of our expert clinicians and can take around about 1 hour to complete. The assessment will confirm if you have hearing loss and can benefit from wearing hearing aids. In the assessment, our clinician will also discuss your lifestyle, your hearing needs and your budget. If a hearing aid is recommended, they’ll show a range of suitable devices for you based on your assessment. A comprehensive hearing assessment and other services may incur a fee if you’re not eligible for the Australian Government Hearing Services Program Voucher Scheme.
What if I already wear hearing aids from another clinic?
You can still access services through Hearing Australia. We’ll assess your current hearing needs and determine whether your existing devices are suitable or if you qualify for a new set of fully subsidised hearing aids under the Voucher Scheme.
Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?
Absolutely. You’re welcome to bring a family member, carer, or friend to your appointment. In fact, having someone familiar with your daily communication can help us better understand your hearing needs and recommend the best solutions. Having a family member present is ideal because it allows you to have someone familiar to discuss your options with.
Who qualifies for the free 14-day hearing aid trial?
All adults are eligible, provided they’re deemed suitable for a hearing aid by our expert clinicians after they complete a comprehensive hearing assessment.
Is the trial really free?
Yes, there’s no cost to try our hearing aids. However, if you don’t return the hearing aids after the trial period or they’re damaged upon return, you may incur a fee. When you sign up for the trial, we’ll be securely capturing your payment details just in case this happens. Your payments details will be deleted once the trial is completed and you’ve returned the hearing aids undamaged and in good condition.
